Frequently Asked Questions About Therapy in California and North Carolina
Who knew when you started googling find a therapist near me that you would find so many options, and be left with SO many questions? I am here to help! Therapists work in different ways, and here are some good things to know about how I work:
-
Sessions are typically 50 minutes. EMDR sessions may be 50 minutes or 90 minutes, depending on best fit.
-
During the first 1-3 sessions we talk about the responses you wrote to your intake questions, gathering important history and establishing goals for our work. We explore the treatment approaches that may be helpful for starting off and depending on time we may try a modality or two so you can see if they may help. The first three sessions are also a time to get a better sense for fit and decide if longer term work together is the best course to take. From there we develop tools for tending to daily stressors and then move toward the deep diving work to help heal the roots and deeper messages of the pains that brought you to therapy.
-
If you have been thinking about a change for some time but have had trouble making it, or you are feeling at your limit with the resources you have to face a loss, challenges living with neurodiversity, or a psychedelic experience, it may be a good sign that it’s time for some extra support. You may also choose to maintain a long term relationship with a therapist to optimize and deepen self-awareness, growth and relational wellbeing over time as life continues to bring its ups and downs.
-
Clients report trusting, understanding, and loving themselves more, living more balanced lives, and being less reactive and more fulfilled and connected in their relationships. Overall, they tend to feel less triggered and are able to respond with choice and power to situations in life, rather than be taken over by old impulses. At the end of therapy, they feel more peace and calm and aren’t limited by old worn out ways of viewing themselves and the world. They experience a new level of freedom.

I find that working weekly is the most cost-effective for achieving goals and maintaining optimal support in the sometimes challenging work of healing and growth. We establish a set to time to meet each week and that will be our reoccurring weekly appointment. Sometimes after working together for a while and making desired changes. it makes sense for some clients to discuss bi-weekly maintenance sessions. There are a number of factors that contribute to the length of therapy, so it is not a one-size-fits-all process. This question is best answered after beginning work together.
-
Doing healing work at the level that will sustain long-term change takes time. It’s a commitment. Clients that invest in the time get better faster and with less relapse into old patterns.
-

-
I provide you with a special type of bill that you can submit to your insurance company on a monthly basis.
-
50 minute sessions are currently $200. Other session lengths are prorated from there. My sliding scale spots are currently full, but you are welcome to ask if that has changed.
-
I offer sessions between the hours of 6am and 2pm, PST. Current openings may be limited.
-

I have a preferred 48-hour cancellation policy, but I understand that is not always possible. I do have a very firm 24-hour cancellation policy, so if you need to cancel for any reason, make sure you give at least 24 hours notice to avoid paying the late cancellation fee, which is the full session rate.
-
If at any point you or I don’t think the process is helping, I work with you to identify next steps you want to take and may offer referrals for other therapists or resources.
